“NOTICE TO RESIDENTS, DEVELOPERS, AND CONTRACTORS: Recent rainy weather has led to increased mud and gravel on City streets, especially around active construction sites. Mud in roadways is an illicit discharge that can be washed into City sewers and cause blockages and flooding. Contractors are advised to increase the frequency of street sweeping in active work areas until conditions become drier.”
Notice To Residents
It’s that time again when the fall colors turn to piles of leaves in yards and streets. Although dead leaves are a natural part of the cooler months and help fertilize the soil for the next year, they can be a nuisance for storm drains, and large buildups of decaying leaves can create algae blooms and other issues for ponds. The City recommends the following when dealing with leaves around your property:
-
Do not sweep leaves into the street, as they can clog drains. Wet leaves in the road or water buildup from blocked drains can cause slick and unsafe conditions for motorists.
-
Do not dump raked leaves into ponds and other water features.
-
Mulching leaves with your lawnmower will help fertilize your yard naturally.
-
If you compost, add leaves to your compost bin.
-
Use leaves on garden beds and planters to insulate them over the winter.
