Recreation
Local
points of interest in Boone County include The Dinsmore Homestead
in Burlington,
a look into the past through the lives of the Dinsmore Family and
Rabbit Hash, a unique Ohio River hideaway featuring the Rabbit
Hash General Store (est. 1831), where the Dog Mayor, Goofey
may
be found lying around. This quaint community was the focus of
the movie "Rabbit Hash, Center of the Universe". The
City of Walton has recently purchased the Abner Gaines
property, and will establish the Gaines Tavern History Center
in this 2 1/2 story brick home that may have been built as early as
1791, but definitely by 1814.
For
more adult recreation try thoroughbred racing at nearby Turfway
Park in Florence. Or racing of the 4 wheeled kind at the new Kentucky
Speedway down in Sparta. To get your pulses racing, try your luck
at the casinos in Indiana.
Visit
the Cincinnati Zoo or the Newport Aquarium, or take in a
Cincinnati Reds or Bengals game with friends or family. Kings
Island is only about 1 hour north of the City on I-71.
For
day trips, the State Parks of Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana offer
affordable and attractive lodges and recreational facilities.
