You know that Spring has arrived in Walton when the City holds
it's annual Easter Egg Hunt the Saturday before Easter
weekend in the Community Park. In a
matter of minutes, over two thousand eggs are gathered by the children who come
to fill their baskets and visit with the Easter Bunny.
Each May the community gathers at
Walton Cemetery and Veterans Memorial to attend the Memorial Day Services usually beginning at 9:00
a.m. on Memorial Day. The Cemetery is located on Church Street, just
behind City Hall.
In Summer
music will fill the air the fourth Friday evening of each month, May
- September, at Scheben Pavilion located on Main Street next to City
Hall. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and neighbors and enjoy
"Concerts on Main". Check the Community Calendar for more
information. Concerts will begin 7:00 p.m.
Walton has held an
annual "Old Fashion Day" Festival on the September
Saturday following Labor Day
since 1973, Boone County’s 175th birthday. Following a parade, there
is a street fair with crafts, games and musical entertainment.
Residents decorate store windows with family heirlooms, quilts and
old photographs. Some residents dress in period costumes to take
part in the event.
On the
first Friday evening in
December the city begins the holiday season with Christmas
on Main Parade down Main Street. Santa comes to town in a horse drawn carriage
to visit with the children following the parade. There's also
a live Nativity, and Main Street businesses greet visitors with
refreshments.
